1 Dead After 'Cooking-Related' Fire At Fremont Apartment: Officials

FREMONT, CA — Fire officials say they're investigating a blaze at an apartment building in Fremont on Wednesday morning that left one person dead.

Fire officials say the blaze appears to be "cooking-related," but are working with police to determine an official cause.

Crews responded just after 9:20 a.m. to the apartment building at 4200 Irvington Ave. and worked to quickly extinguish the flames, according to the Fremont Fire Department.

It took 25 minutes for 21 firefighters to extinguish the majority of the flames, officials said.

At the scene, fire crews found a "severely injured adult patient" in the hallway, authorities said.

That person died from their injuries after being taken to Washington Hospital, officials said. Fire officials did not release the victim's name.
