Fremont Robbery Suspect Caught Hiding In Restaurant After Police Chase: Authorities

FREMONT, CA — An armed robber was taken into custody after brandishing a gun at store employees in a Fremont grocery store and later prompting a highway chase that ended in Hayward, according to authorities.

Police say the suspect was trying to steal from a grocery store in the Charter Square shopping center on Thursday, Aug. 6, when employees tried to intervene.

The suspect flashed a gun at the employees, got in a car and left the area, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Officers later found the suspect's vehicle at a shopping center in Union City, police said.

The officers were surveilling the car when the suspect got in and drove off, prompting officers to initiate a stop, police said.

But the driver kept going, driving onto the I-880 and into Hayward, police said.

There, the suspect ditched the car and hid inside a nearby restaurant, police said.

Officers then tracked down the suspect, who tried running away through the kitchen, police said.

Eventually, officers were able to get a hold of the suspect and arrest them on suspicion of robbery, police said.
