FREMONT, CA — Police say an 81-year-old electric bicycle rider died days after a solo crash in Fremont.
It's unclear what caused the solo crash. Officers responded around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 to southbound Paseo Padre Parkway, about one-quarter mile north of Durham Road, where they found the cyclist unresponsive and lying in the roadway.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that this appears to be a solo bicycle collision, and there is currently no indication that another vehicle or person was involved," the Fremont Police Department said.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he died on Aug. 28, police said.
Physicians told officers the man may have suffered a medical emergency that caused him to fall from the bicycle, but a report from the Alameda County Medical Examiner found that to be inconclusive, police said.
"Thus, following state and county reporting requirements, this collision is being documented as a fatal traffic collision," police said.
The Fremont Police Department asks that anyone who may have witnessed the crash contact the department at 510-790-6760.
