Bay Area Youths Continue to Benefit from Free Youth Summer Music Program for the 22nd season in Band, Orchestra, and Chorus

Registration Now Open for Summer Music Program Offered by Jenny Lin Foundation. Monday and Wednesday Evening Rehearsals June 20 to July 29.

The Youth Summer Music Program proudly presented for the 22nd year by the non-profit Jenny Lin Foundation is now accepting registration. All music students at the high school level and advanced musicians at the junior high level are invited to take advantage of this exceptional program to help maintain their skills and to continue performing in group during the long summer. This six-week program also offers an opportunity for students to meet and interact with peers throughout the Bay Area, and to cultivate and hone their leadership skills. Participants may be eligible for scholarships from the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Alameda County (YOSAC).

Last summer, over 350 young musicians of 45 schools spanning 13 cities across the Bay Area enrolled in the program. This year, participants will again be performing in three groups: Symphonic Band (directed by Greg Conway), Symphonic Orchestra (directed by Cary Nasatir), and Chorus (directed by Diana Ryan). Rehearsals will be held at Canyon Middle School, Castro Valley, Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday, June 20, to Wednesday, July 27, and will conclude with a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29, at the Reed L. Buffington Center for Visual and Performing Arts at Chabot College, Hayward.

Based in Castro Valley, the Jenny Lin Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1994 following the murder of 14-year-old Jenny Lin. Operated through volunteers and donations from the community, the foundation promotes child safety and music education for youth, sponsoring many music and safety events for the East Bay communities.
