Become a Spanish Language Medical Interpreter

Job opportunities should be best for those who have professional certification. Join this growing career field by taking Ohlone’s series of Spanish interpreting courses. Students completing these courses will receive a valuable industry-specific Certificate of Completion, along with employment and career placement information.

Workshop Title: Become a Spanish Language Medical Interpreter
Description: This course is designed to teach professional interpretation of medical terminology. Students will learn a large amount of medical terms to prepare for the high-demand career of interpreting in a medical environment.

This course will be taught in English and Spanish so the student must be prepared to answer in any of these two languages. The student will be introduced to the medical code of ethics and the three modes of interpretation most used in the medical interpretation field. The student will learn the general requirements of interpretation. The 911 script is an emergency mock this mock will introduce the student to telephonic interpretation. Telephonic interpretation may be done from home.

The student will learn the HIPPA laws about interpreting the patient’s rights and what information should be protected. The student will also be given an exam that has the same level of difficulty as the federal exam. This is done so that students that are interested may take the federal exam and lose their fear of the unknown, although there are many jobs that the interpreter may be prepared to do by taking this class without being certified. Students are expected to finish their workbook and listen to the exercises on the CDs.

On the last week of the class the student will receive resume help and work orientation. The student will also receive a very valuable industry specific certificate. The student will also get information to all of the companies that need interpreters. We have found many jobs of our students.

Workshop Title: Become a Spanish Language Legal Interpreter
Description: This class is designed to teach thousands of legal terms. Students will also elarn how to interpret and sigh translate important court documents, such as the advisement of rights, the Miranda warnings, the oath, and the arraignment. Students will acquire real-life experience through legal mocks.
