Coronavirus Death Toll Climbs To 90 In Alameda County

Seven more people have died in Alameda County this week from coronavirus. The California death toll topped 3,500 on Thursday.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Alameda County reports two new deaths from coronavirus on Thursday, bring the county's total since the start of the pandemic to 90. The total has increased by 7 since Monday.

In neighboring Contra Costa County, 3 new deaths were reported, the first fatalities in more than a week. The total is still less than half of Alameda County's at 36.

Across California, the death toll is now 3,501.

In other developments, Alameda county will resume court proceedings in Hayward and Oakland on June 1. The court and its clerk's office locations will remain closed to the public, with proceedings online.

The city of Hayward is changing the configuration of parking spots in certain commercial areas this week to accommodate the change in the Alameda County shelter-in-place order that now allows curbside retail activity amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder's Office announced this week that it is performing civil marriage ceremonies via Zoom or FaceTime for people having their weddings online during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and resulting shelter-in-place order.

Shopping malls, swap meets, other retail stores, dine-in restaurants and schools can open or will be opening in Napa County amid the coronavirus crisis. Businesses can open immediately and schools can open June 1, both with adaptations.
