Creek Fire In Sunol Grows To Nearly 600 Acres, Evacuations Ordered

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — The Creek Fire in Sunol grew to nearly 600 acres Saturday as officials ordered evacuations in parts of Alameda County.

The Creek Fire broke out around 4 p.m. Friday in the hills east of Fremont and Milpitas near Welch Creek and Calaveras roads in Sunol. As of 6:40 a.m. Saturday, the blaze had consumed 595 acres and was 5 percent contained, according to the Cal Fire.

An evacuation order was issued for zone ALC-E127 in Alameda County, which includes the area north of Geary Road, south of Welch Creek Road, east of Welch - Flag Hill Trail and Calaveras Road, and west of Bluff and Welch Creek Roads.

The Sunol Wilderness Regional Preserve was also closed "until further notice," East Bay Regional Parks said on their website.

On Saturday, the Creek Fire continued to threaten structures; however, Cal Fire did not elaborate on the type of structures threatened or how many were potentially in the path of flames.

No injuries have been reported.

In a Friday night update, Cal Fire said air and ground resources were battling the blaze and working to reinforce containment lines. The fire is being fought by the Alameda County Fire Department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
