Update: Deadly Crash on Highway 84 in Sunol

BREAKING: The two-vehicle collision was reported at 8 a.m. The victim was driving a maroon Infiniti. He hit a white SUV.

SUNOL, CA — A 27-year-old man died in a two-vehicle collision this morning in the unincorporated Alameda County community of Sunol, California Highway Patrol officers said.

The collision was first reported at 8 a.m. on state Highway 84 at Little Valley Road, CHP Officer Eric Anderson said.

A white SUV was traveling west on Highway 84 when the driver of a maroon Infiniti traveling east on the highway lost control of his vehicle and drifted onto the right shoulder.

The 27-year-old driver overcorrected and his Infiniti found its way into the westbound lane where the SUV broadsided it, CHP Officer Derek Reed said. The collision killed the Infiniti's driver.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was taken to Valleycare Medical Center in Pleasanton.

The westbound lanes of Highway 84 were closed as of 9 a.m. CHP officers have started one-way traffic control past the collision site and expect to have all lanes reopened by 11 a.m.
