Drone Used In Rescue Of Injured Hiker On Mission Peak

The rescue took place over the weekend.

FREMONT, CA — The ‪Fremont Fire Department is putting its drones to good use.

On Saturday, a drone was used to help locate, plan and bring to safety an injured climber off the top of Mission Peak.‬

The terrain on Mission Peak can be rugged. Use of the drone cuts the rescue time.

"The drones can be equipped with thermal cameras and provide safe, comprehensive, and secure means of assessing a situation for rescue and safety operations," according to Adam Moura of the fire department.

An update on the condition of the hiker is not immediately available.
