DUI Checkpoint Scheduled In Fremont

FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Police Department will conduct a DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Thursday night from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The exact location has not bee disclosed but is typically chosen based on past crashes and DUI arrests.

Officers will look for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. They will also check drivers for valid licenses.

Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail time, license suspension, insurance increases, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

Accord to the police department, research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints are conducted frequently. All three police departments in the tri-city are holding them this month.

The funding for this checkpoint comes from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
