Every Child Has A Personal Learning Style

Every child has a personal learning style. This means that we are all different and every child has their own unique way of learning, thinking and understanding. Children can learn by seeing, hearing, moving, doing or touching or a combination of these. It is important as parents that you understand your child’s learning style so that you can help them better as they grow through the different stages at school and college. By understanding your child’s style you can develop their natural strengths and assist in enjoying the journey of knowledge.

Visual Learners are those that learn by seeing. Such learners are great at spelling, penmanship, punctuation, art, math, and computers. They learn by visuals and seeing.

Tactile Learners learn by touch and physical movement. They are generally great at sport, dance and hands on activities such as science and art.

Auditory Learners rely on sound and hearing and excel in languages, music, science, social studies and group activities.

Most children have 2 learning styles. However many factors will impact these learning styles to include:

  1. Their cultural background - which involves different philosophies in learning and education.
  2. Their environment and the kind of stimulation they receive at home and in school.
  3. Their emotional makeup - which is their self confidence which indirectly relates to 1 and 2.
  4. Their social skills and kind of social development they receive.

Siblings differ as well since 1-4 above can be different at different stages of a family and their environment.
