Fremont Burglary Suspect Arrested After Ramming Police Vehicle: Police

The suspect, who lived in both Fremont and Hayward, allegedly tried to run over two police detectives and pedestrians.

Fremont, CA - A burglary suspect who was arrested in Fremont on Wednesday afternoon after a pursuit that involved multiple law enforcement agencies was identified by police today as 20-year-old Brandon Silvas, who lives in both Fremont and Hayward.

Silvas is being held at the Fremont Jail in lieu of $315,000 bail on suspicion of three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, felony evasion, residential burglary and possession of stolen property, Fremont police
spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

Silvas hasn't yet been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office but he's tentatively scheduled to be arraigned at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fremont Hall of Justice.

Fremont detectives who were following up on a recent residential burglary in Fremont spotted Silvas and a vehicle thought to be connected to the burglary in the vicinity of Carlos Bee Boulevard and Overlook Avenue in Hayward at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The detectives tried to stop Silvas' car but he allegedly rammed an unmarked police vehicle.

A detective standing next to the vehicle was able to get out of the way and a second detective had to jump out of Silvas' way as he allegedly attempted to hit the detectives with his vehicle.

Hayward police joined the pursuit and Silvas went south on Mission Boulevard, where police say he attempted to run over an unspecified number of pedestrians.

Silvas ditched his vehicle on St. Luke Court and fled on foot, according to police.

Officers from Hayward and Fremont and deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office set up a perimeter and Silvas was found and taken into custody around 3:30 p.m., police said.

Police said Silvas may also be connected to a burglary in Martinez on Wednesday morning in which a suspect driving the same vehicle fled from officers who were attempting a traffic stop.

Bosques said officers searched Silvas' home in Hayward after he was arrested and found a variety of items, including a firearm, that had been stolen from a Fremont residence.

Bosques said that at the time that Silvas was arrested on Wednesday, he was free on bail for a residential burglary arrest in San Rafael on March 31.

San Rafael police said Silvas and 21-year-old Kayla Moss are accused of stealing computers, an iPad, jewelry and cash from a home in the 200 block of Riviera Drive.

Police said the victim used a "Find My iPad" application to track the computer tablet to the Village at Corte Madera shopping center, where officers found Silvas and Moss sitting in a car.

The officers found property in the back of the car and the victims identified it as theirs, police said.
