The City Council approved $1.76 million for the purchase of the trucks. They replace two older units, including one from 1999.
The fire truck builder, Pierce Manufacturing, is based in Wisconsin. Fremont accelerated its purchase of the trucks because of threatened tariffs by president Donald Trump. The tariffs on imported steel and aluminum would have raised the cost of the fire trucks by nearly $50,000.
