Fremont Candlelight Vigil Honors Homeless Who Have Died

"This ceremony is a somber reflection on the dire struggles often faced by those most in need."

FREMONT, CA — An interfaith candlelight vigil is scheduled to be held Monday in Fremont to recognize people who died over the last year while experiencing homelessness.

Faith leaders and advocates from the nonprofit organization Abode Services will gather with friends and community members at St. James' Episcopal Church on Cabrillo Terrace from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Names of individuals who resided in Alameda County and Santa Clara County will be read aloud.

The ceremony will include speakers from several faiths including those representing Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist traditions.

"This ceremony is a somber reflection on the dire struggles often faced by those most in need," said Louis Chicoine, Abode Services' chief executive officer. "This candlelight vigil is a call to action for our community, serving as a reminder that we must ensure that our most vulnerable neighbors are not left behind."
