Fremont Fire Quickly Put Out Despite 'Explosives'
The fire was in a detached garage/shop that stored welding supplies.
FREMONT, CA — Fremont firefighters put out a one-alarm fire in the 100 block of Mill Creek Road Monday afternoon. There were no injuries despite the fact that the building was storing “explosives.”
The fire was in a two-story detached garage/shop.
When the first arriving firefighters were informed of the explosives by the resident, firefighters mounted a defensive attack and a life safety alert was broadcast by the Alameda County Regional Emergency Communications Center to all personnel.

The explosives were identified as oxygen and acetylene bottles used for welding.
Firefighters were able to locate the cylinders in a portion of the shop that was not on fire and removed them from the area. This allowed firefighters to resume an offensive operation and the fire was out in less than 20 minutes.
