Fremont Firefighters Save American Flag From Napa Fire

As the Glass Fire burned through vineyards, historic wineries, and homes, deployed Fremont firefighters saved an American flag from flames.

FREMONT, CA — Within hours of the Glass Fire igniting in Napa County, the Fremont Fire Department's Engine 558 and its firefighters were heading north as part of a Strike Team to provide mutual aid.

It didn't take long before they were in the thick of the firefight.

The fire department shared photos and a video of the firefighters saving an American flag from the flames. The firefighters shares, “Even though we weren’t able to save the bldg, we never gave up. We were able to save the flag & stay in the fight. Several properties were saved...The flag gave us the pride to keep going when things were at their toughest.”

As of 7 a.m. Friday morning, the Glass Fire has burned 60,148 acres and is six percent contained. Nearly 600 homes and businesses have been destroyed, with more than 100 others damaged. No deaths have been reported. More than 2,500 firefighters are engaged in the battle, both on the ground and in the air.
