Fremont Is The Least Stressed City In US, Report Says
Cities with high crime rates or less effective public health naturally lead to elevated stress levels in residents, according to WalletHub.
FREMONT, CA — Fremont is the least stressed city in the United States, a new report found.
Personal finance website WalletHub identified 182 cities across the country, with researchers analyzing city crime rates, public health resources and finances to determine the most and least stressed cities in the country.
"Some stress is out of our control, due to issues with family, friends or employers," Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyist said in a report published Monday. "However, where you live can play a big role in how stressed you are."

Detroit, Michigan, was ranked the most stressed city in the United States. It has the highest unemployment rate in America, at 10.4%, and the lowest median household income after adjusting for the cost of living, according to WalletHub.
Detroit also has one of the highest violent crime rates, poverty rates and divorce rates, all of which contribute to stress levels, according to WalletHub.

"Cities with high crime rates, weak economies, less effective public health and congested transportation systems naturally lead to elevated stress levels for residents," Lupo said. "When moving, it’s important to consider how a certain city may impact your mental health – not just your financial opportunities."
On the opposite end of the spectrum is Fremont, ranking dead last and earning the recognition of the least stressed city in the country.
These high honors are nothing new to Fremont. The East Bay city has also earned the distinction of being the "Happiest City in America" and "The Best Place to Raise a Family."
It's earned those distinctions by having one of the highest median family incomes after adjusting for the cost of living, at over $137,000, offering exceptional children's education and having plenty of parkland for residents, according to WalletHub.
Fremont, meanwhile, is having its moment, according to city officials. A recent State of the City address highlighted Fremont's growth over the last several decades. A growth that has only been bolstered in the past year, with Fremont landing 70% of all manufacturing leases in the region, according to Salwan.
"Today, we're the fourth largest city in the Bay Area, a global center of advanced manufacturing, and one of the most diverse cities in the entire country —where more than 100 languages are spoken in our schools," Fremont Mayor Salwan said during the address on June 30. Nobody handed us that. We built it. One decision, one neighbor, one generation at a time."
