Fremont Man Robbed At Home During Sales Transaction
The man set up the transaction with strangers through an app. Details on the police department's Safe Exchange Zone and FPD safety tips.

FREMONT, CA — A Fremont man was punched in the face and robbed of a laptop in his own home when a private sales transaction went terribly wrong. The man set up the transaction through an app.
The victim listed his Apple Macbook Pro on Offer-up. Three men went to his residence late Monday evening. Police say in a report, "As the victim was showing his laptop, the suspect punched the victim. The suspect’s two friends assisted in an effort to take the laptop. The three suspects were able to take the laptop and get into a vehicle waiting for them."

- Black male adult, 20-25 years old, bald
- White male adult, 20-25 years old with brown hair
- Unknown race male with brown hair
- Black SUV, possibly a Lincoln Navigator, with tinted windows
The Fremont Police Department operates a Safe Exchange Zone so that people making private transactions, such as this one, have more protection. It consists of two well-lit parking spaces in front of the Fremont Police Department and is recorded by video 24-hours a day. While video records the area 24 hours a day, the optimal transaction time is Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. The police department is located at 2000 Stevenson Blvd., Fremont, 94538.

- Only conduct transactions with local buyers/sellers
- Insist on meeting in a public place
- Do not invite strangers into your home, and do not go to theirs
- Take your cell phone with you
- If you are selling a large piece of furniture, move the piece to an open garage or front porch
- Tell a friend or family member about your intentions. Tell them when and where and with whom you are meeting - if possible, bring them with you
- Complete transactions during daylight hours
- Be extra cautious in buying/selling valuable items
- Only use cash or money orders
- Trust your instincts and be cautious of scams
