FREMONT, CA — A Fremont man was in critical condition after he was shot in East Oakland early Tuesday morning, police said.
Officers responded to an alert at 2:10 a.m. from the city's gunshot detection system in the 5000 block of Melrose Avenue.
The location is about two blocks from Horace Mann Elementary School and about three blocks from Fremont High School.

Officers arrived to find a man with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.
