Fremont Murder Suspect Tracked And Arrested In Colorado

A SWAT team was deployed to a residence in Lakewood, Colorado, where detectives determined the suspect was hiding.

FREMONT, CA — A suspect in connection to a fatal shooting in Fremont earlier this year was tracked and arrested in Colorado, police said Friday. The shooting occurred in the Lucky's Supermarket parking lot and left a 32-year-old man dead in April.

Kamalpreet Singh, 27, of Fremont, was taken into custody on Monday in Lakewood, Colorado for the suspected murder of Anthony Garza, 32, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Garza was shot around 7:20 p.m. April 8 in the Lucky's Supermarket parking lot at 5000 Mowry Ave. While he was transported to a trauma center, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Ever since, homicide detectives have been searching for Singh, for whom they issued a warrant shortly after the incident. According to detectives, Singh fled the area after the shooting to hide out in Colorado, where a team of undercover detectives from the Fremont Police Department's Special Operations Division met with local Lakewood authorities to capture the suspect.

A SWAT team was deployed to extract Singh from a residence in Lakewood Monday.

Singh was charged with one count of murder with a gun enhancement and is currently being held at the Jefferson County Detention Facility in Colorado.

"Detectives are confident that Singh is the sole suspect responsible for the murder of Mr. Garza," the Fremont Police Department said in a news release Friday.
