Fremont Native Wins Prestigious Scholarship to Cambridge

The Churchill Scholarship is awarded to 15 US students in the science, math and engineering fields.

FREMONT, CA — Fremont native Aswini Krishnan has been awarded a prestigious Churchill Scholarship to pursue a master’s degree at Winston Churchill College at the University of Cambridge. There, she will study with the Nobel Prize-winning biologist Venki Ramakrishnan.

Krishnan is one of just 15 US students to receive the scholarship, which will provide $50,000 to $60,000 to pay all of her expenses — tuition, a living stipend and travel expenses.

At Cambridge, her work will focus on the study of ribosomal structures and translational mechanisms, which govern how cells produce proteins. She plans to become a physician-scientist, contributing to the medical field through both patient care and scientific research.
