SmartAsset analyzed six data points - see how they reached their conclusion.
FREMONT, CA — If you're planning to buy a family home, Fremont is the best city in the country to invest your money. That's the conclusion of SmartAsset in new 2019 national rankings.
The finding may be surprising, considering the notoriety of Bay Area housing prices as a whole. To locate the best places to find a home big enough to raise a family, SmartAsset analyzed six data points:
- change in home values
- change in rent
- percentage of housing cost-burdened homeowners
- housing costs as a percentage of household income
- percentage of homes with at least two bedrooms
- average effective property tax rate
The company reports, "Approximately 88 percent of all homes in the city have at least two bedrooms, making Fremont’s housing stock well-suited to families. The effective property tax rate is 0.68 percent, ranking within the top 25 percent of the study for affordability. Plus, home values in Fremont have gone up by 47 percent over the past five years, which is the 21st-highest rate in our entire study."
