Fremont Pedestrian In Crosswalk Dies Of Injuries Following Crash

The victim was hit on Blacow Road on Friday. Police announced her death this week.

FREMONT, CA — A pedestrian who was struck as she was walking in a crosswalk in Fremont on Friday has succumbed to her injuries and died, the Fremont Police Department announced on Monday.

At approximately 7:42 a.m., police received a call about a collision with a pedestrian at the intersection of Blacow Road and Royal Palm Drive. Officers discovered a woman lying in the road with major injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, also a Fremont resident, remained on the scene and was cooperative, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the 41-year-old woman was on the southeast corner of Blacow Road at Calaveras Avenue. She waited for the pedestrian light to cycle to the "walk" symbol and once it signaled "walk," she started walking within the painted crosswalk in a westerly direction. She crossed all lanes of northbound Blacow Road. As she was crossing the number one lane of southbound Blacow, she was struck by a vehicle being driven by a 43-year-old woman.

There were no signs or symptoms of impairment with the woman who was driving the vehicle, police said.

This was Fremont's seventh fatal traffic collision this year.
