The CHP closed all lanes of northbound I-880 Saturday night to assist police int he high-risk stop.
FREMONT, CA — Fremont Police report that they have recovered two stolen vehicles — one each on Friday and Saturday. A total of three people were taken into custody.
The arrests and vehicle recovery on Saturday involved assistance from the California Highway Patrol and the temporary closure of northbound Interstate Highway 880. At 10:30 p.m., the stolen vehicle was spotted on Mowry Avenue with four people inside, setting up a high-risk stop. It was followed onto northbound I-880. Additional patrol units arrived to support the stop and the vehicle was pulled over south of Decoto Road. With all northbound lanes blocked by the CHP, the vehicle's occupants complied with commands and were safely detained. The driver, a 42-year-old Oakland man, was arrested for the stolen vehicle. A second man, who is 35-years-old, was arrested for drug related warrants. The remaining two passengers were transported off the freeway and released.
The stolen vehicle recovery on Friday was not nearly as eventful. The vehicle was spotted in the area of Mowry Avenue and Farwell Drive. The vehicle was ultimately stopped on northbound I-880 near Decoto Road, near where the other vehicle was stopped on Saturday. The driver, an unnamed 36-year-old man, was taken into custody.
