Fremont Recognized For School Transportation Safety Initiatives

FREMONT, CA — The City of Fremont’s work to improve school transportation safety was recently recognized in the category of Transportation Planning by the Northern California Section of the American Planning Association, the nation’s largest professional organization of urban planners.

In partnership with the Fremont Unified School District (FUSD), the City conducted safety assessments at all of Fremont’s 42 public schools. Representatives from FUSD, Public Works, and the Police Department, as well as school administrators, parents, and students, worked together to develop safety recommendations by examining access and circulation routes at each school.

The City has subsequently worked to implement short-term recommendations, including improved signage and striping, at all schools over a two-year period.
