Fremont Recreation And Parks Update

Based on the April 29, 2020 Alameda County Public Health Order, the City of Fremont has decided not to reopen any of the previously closed park facilities.

Current closures include:

• Drinking Fountains
• Picnic Tables
• Dog Park
• Tennis/Basketball/Sand Volleyball Courts
• Skate Park

Central Park parking lot closures will continue, but will be eased restricting the overall parking capacity by 45% versus the prior 60%. The Alameda County Health Officer has directed that City facilities must comply with social distancing and health/safety protocols to reduce crowding and risk of transmission of COVID-19. The City of Fremont cannot ensure social distancing requirements and the shared equipment or physical contact restrictions between participants.

All City parks currently remain open for walking and hiking. Additional closures will be evaluated and may be implemented at other parks, as needed.

The City of Fremont continues to encourage residents to stay local by walking, jogging, or biking through one’s neighborhood rather than driving to larger regional parks. The current Shelter in Place Order is meant to encourage social/physical distancing of 6 feet, only use vehicles for essential activities, and to stay physically active by taking walks or runs in your neighborhood with people who live in your immediate household.

Fremont Summer Concert Series and Movies in the Park Cancelled for 2020

Also in response to the Order, and California’s Roadmap to Pandemic Resilience: Four Stage laid out by Governor Gavin Newsom on April 28, 2020, the City is cancelling the Central Park Summer Concert Series and Movies in the Park for the remainder of 2020. All scheduled bands will be invited back and new movies will be selected next year. We look forward to coming back bigger and better, post COVID-19, in Summer 2021!
