Fremont Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder Following Robbery Case

A suspect in an attempted robbery who was arrested last week has been charged with attempted murder.

FREMONT, CA — A suspect in an attempted robbery who was arrested last week has been charged with attempted murder, police said.

Zain Qureishi, 24, of Union City, has been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office with attempted murder, attempted robbery, possession of an assault weapon and evading a police officer, according to the Fremont Police Department.

He was charged with the crimes on Tuesday, police said.

On Nov. 12 at 1:18 p.m., officers responded to several 911 calls reporting a person had been shot near School Street and Bodily Avenue.
The suspect, later identified as Qureishi, fled the scene in a vehicle, and responding officers ultimately located the vehicle, and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into a building near Ohlone College, and the suspect was taken into custody.
The victim was transported to the hospital and was expected to survive, police said.

Investigators learned the victim and Qureishi had been in contact via social media prior to the attempted robbery.
