Fremont Walmart Employee Punched Amid Robbery, Suspects Arrested

FREMONT, CA — Two suspects were arrested last week in connection to a robbery at a Walmart in Fremont that reportedly left an employee with mild injuries, the Fremont Police Department announced Saturday.

Steven Mora, 31, of Fremont was arrested Thursday on suspicion of robbery and booked at the Fremont City Jail. Jasmine Stanford, 19, of Fremont, was also arrested on suspicion of robbery but was released with a citation amid circumstances that hindered the ability for her to be booked, police said in a statement.

On New Year's Day, police said Mora and Stanford were reportedly attempting to shoplift at Walmart in Fremont when a 62-year-old employee stopped them and asked the pair to pay for their items, police said. Stanford reportedly punched the worker in the face, causing him to hit his head on the floor as the two suspects fled, the statement detailed.

The worker's elbow was bloodied in the commotion, but he declined medical attention and police said he was not seriously injured.

Later, patrol officers investigating the incident were able to identify a suspect vehicle from private business cameras. That vehicle was spotted on the Community Camera network, on which a license plate on a silver Chrysler Sebring was captured.

The Chrysler was seen in the area of Stevenson Boulevard and Blacow Road, where officers promptly pulled the suspects over and detained them, police said. The Walmart employee was brought to the scene and was able to identify both suspects.

Stanford's citation orders her to appear in court to face her suspected robbery charge in April 2021. Mora's arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday.
