Aww--let’s start with the happy ending. Kay Thomas, who has ALS and needs a specially equipped van driven by her husband Phil, is not home bound. Credit two Good Samaritans--the fellow Fremont resident who recognized their stolen van after seeing a news report, and a repair shop in Hayward that’s fixing the van for free after thieves damaged it.

The van was stolen right out of their driveway last week. Channel 7 did a news story about the theft on the Wednesday morning news. Someone watching the news had spotted the abandoned van and called police. If that wasn’t miraculous enough for the couple, Classic Vans of Hayward offered to fix damage left by the car thieves and lent them a spare van while the damage was being repaired.

The couple, both veterans, are thrilled with the positive turn of events.
