Groundbreaking Held For Fremont Event Center, Plaza

FREMONT, CA — Fremont is getting a new Downtown Event Center and Plaza.

City officials including Mayor Lily Mei, City Manager Mark Danaj, and Community Services Director Suzanne Wolf presided over groundbreaking festivities in late October and gave remarks about the planning and purpose of the intended downtown facilities.

The City considers this a big milestone in creating an active, vibrant downtown that will serve as a central gathering location in the Fremont community.

The Event Center will have meeting rooms, a large lobby, a catering kitchen, and more for networking, local business gatherings, and conferences. The building will be Fremont’s first all-electric building with zero dependence on fossil fuels, and will also feature commissioned artwork.

The outdoor plaza will have a lawn, multipurpose space, a designated area for food trucks, and a garden breakout space under a canopy of trees.

Construction is expected to be finished in spring 2021.

Over 400 people attended the celebration that included a live band, artists and entertainers, street games, and bounce houses.
