Homicide, Gang Detectives Investigate Fremont Stabbing

"The area where this occurred has experienced an increase in gang violence over the past few months," Fremont Police said in a statement.

FREMONT, CA — A stabbing early Sunday morning is being investigated as an attempted homicide, Fremont police said.

The stabbing was reported at 1:15 a.m. in the 4400 block of Central Avenue, where officers found the victim, who had "several major stab wounds to his face and body," police said.

The man was hospitalized and is expected to survive.

The nature of the attack and the man's injuries are being treated as an attempted homicide, police said.

There is currently no suspect information. "The area where this occurred has experienced an increase in gang violence over the past few months," the department said in a news release.

"Patrol officers and gang detectives have increased their presence in the area."
