Fremont Man Attacked With Machete; Suspect Identified
Fremont Police have released the name of the suspect who was arrested in Union City.

FREMONT, CA — Fremont Police have released the identity of a man accused in a machete attack in Fremont Sunday. The suspect is 28-year-old Zekria Joyaa of Fremont. The victim, whose name will not be released by police, suffered cuts to his head and face. He was hospitalized with major injuries. Joyaa fled the scene of the attack and was later arrested in Union City, police report. Joyaa is being held without bail on one count of attempt murder (PC A187) and one count of Mayhem (PC 203F).
Police say the attack happened around 11 a.m. They received a 911 call from a screaming woman, reporting that a family member had been attacked by a man with a machete. Police and firefighters converged on the scene, the 3000 block of Rockett Drive, across from the Aqua Adventure Water Park in Central Park. The victim was treated at the scene and then transported to the hospital by ambulance. Police closed one southbound lane of Paseo Padre Parkway during the investigation.
The suspect has already fled the scene in a vehicle before police got there. Police say the attacker was tracked to Union City where he was arrested around 4 p.m.
