Man Shot In Fremont Sunday Night

The man was treated for a gunshot wound at a local hospital.

FREMONT, CA — A 34-year-old Fremont man has been released from a hospital after he was treated for wounds he suffered when he was shot at Fremont's Irvington District on Sunday night, police said.

The shooting occurred in the 41800 block of Greenpark Drive at about 10:22 p.m.

The victim was able to get a ride to Washington Township Hospital in Fremont, according to police. Officers who already were at the hospital on another matter were contacted by staff members who told them that the man was suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, police said.

The man told patrol officers and detectives that he had been speaking to the suspect when he was shot, according to police.

The man said that while they were talking the suspect pointed a handgun at him and they struggled over it and he wound up being shot one time and the suspect fled the area, police said.

The shooting is not believed to have been a random act, according to detectives.

No arrests have been announced.
