FREMONT, CA — As the November elections approach, Patch has reached out to candidates to ask about their professional experience and why they're the best fit for the role.

In Fremont, Candidates are vying for positions in one of three council seats.

Desrie Campbell, who currently sits on the council for District 2, is seeking re-election. Get to know her below:

What is your educational background?

I hold a BA in Business Administration, a master's in public administration, and a master's in governance.

What is your professional background?

I currently serve as the Director of Clinical Operations for Bay Area Community Health.

Have you ever held public office, whether appointive or elective?

Yes, I served for ten years as Fremont Unified School District Trustee from 2012 to 2022. I currently serve as Fremont City Council, D2 from 2022 to present.

What are the top three issues facing Fremont's District 2 right now?

1. Keeping Fremont Safe and Prepared: Hiring of police officers and firefighters by supporting the advance of labor agreements that strengthen public safety services while maintaining stability within the departments.

2. Strong Finances and Sustainable Growth: Safeguarding Fremont's future by delivering balanced budgets without relying on reserve funds or reducing staffing or public services. Strengthening local economy by attacking and retaining business, including small businesses, by eliminating barriers in the permitting process.

3. Climate Action and Vision Zero: Maintaining Fremont's commitment to environmental stewardship and all modes of transportation throughout the city.

What is one specific action you would prioritize during your first year as a council member?

Support Fremont's continued efforts outlined in the Homeless Response Plan. These efforts focus on reducing homelessness by preventing community members from becoming homeless. Continuing to expand coordination with regional partners, service providers, and county agencies to deliver more effective, compassionate and results-driven solutions.

Why do you feel you're a better candidate than your opponent?

I have served on Fremont Human Relations Commission, Alameda County Commission on the Status of Women, currently serving on the Ohlone College Foundation Board, as an Executive Board Member, and as an Associate Board member for the Fremont Education Foundation.

Additionally, I have served in elected office for 14 years. I have experience in understanding the many complex issues facing cities, including school districts.

During my time in office, I have earned a reputation for collaboration, problem solving and fiscal responsibility.
