Mountain Lion Takes Stroll Through Fremont (Video)
The nonchalant cougar was captured on a home surveillance camera.

FREMONT, CA — While you're still snug in your bed, mountain lions are out in the pre-dawn darkness looking for breakfast. One was recently caught on a home surveillance camera out for a casual stroll through a suburban neighborhood.
Patch reader Zameer shared a link to the video on the Fremont Patch Neighbor Post page. He wrote, "Mountain Lion found strolling in our front yard today at aprox. 4:48 AM - 11.28.2018 in Sundance Rd, Sentinel Dr, Raindance Rd area in Fremont CA. Please stay alert and keep kids and pets safe."
That area is near Mission Peak Regional Preserve.

We should all adhere to Zameer's advice to keep pets and kids safe. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife reported that 52 percent of mountains lions that were necropsied in 2015 had eaten pets such as dogs and cats.

The DFW offers these safety tips for coexisting with mountain lions:
- Do not hike, bike, or jog alone
- Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active – dawn, dusk, and at night
- Keep a close watch on small children
- Do not approach a mountain lion
- If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects. Pick up small children
- If attacked, fight back
- If a mountain lion attacks a person, immediately call 911
