Native American Artifacts At Ranch: Photos Of The Day
In the hills, this rock was used by Native Americans to grind grain.
FREMONT, CA — James Benney of East Bay Hill People contacted Patch about an interesting find — 14 Native American bedrock mortars and pestles at a nearby ranch.
Benney told Patch in an email, "Many early ranches are located right on top of prime Native American village sites. They often have small collections of pestles, portable mortars, and arrowheads on their front porches."
He reminds people that if they come across these items, leave them in place for others to enjoy and appreciate.

According to Benney, the artifacts are at Minnis Ranch in Ed R. Levin County Park in Milpitas. The park is part of the Santa Clara County Park system which charges an entrance fee for the park. Milpitas was once inhabited by Tamien people, a subgroup of the Ohlone. Milpitas means place of little corn fields.
Thank you for sharing, James!
