New Halal Restaurant To Open In Fremont

FREMONT, CA — Do you have a craving for Middle Eastern-inspired dishes of halal-certified chicken, gyro or falafel, with your choice of having it served as a sandwich or a platter with rice, pita, lettuce and tomatoes?

The Halal Guys will open in Pacific Commons, across the parking lot from Target, on Feb. 8, offering everything from fries, hummus and baba ganouj and a traditional baklava for dessert. The Grand Opening will include gifts, giveaways, music, and games. The first 50 people will receive a free platter of their choice, while the first 1,000 customers will receive one of the following: T-Shirts, Hats, Free Fries, Free Baklava, or Free Drinks.

The Halal Guys started as a hot dog cart in New York City in 1990. They soon realized that Muslim cab drivers were looking for a halal meal, which led to a chicken and gyro over rice platter. The first brick-and-mortar location for The Halal Guys opened in San Francisco in 2017, and there are now locations in Oakland, Berkeley, San Mateo, Sunnyvale and San Jose. "From its start as a New York City hot dog cart to growth into a world-renowned international restaurant franchise, The Halal Guys story is the quintessential American Dream," the company said in a release.

On their Facebook page, The Halal Guys offer these tips for newbies:

• Our most famous platter is the Combo - Chicken and Gyro. If you're not sure what to get, go with that (It's famous for a reason!).
• Add a lot of white sauce, but be very careful with that EXPLOSIVE HOT sauce (your mouth will thank us later)!
• Vegetarian? We have options for you, just ask!
• Mix it up with different toppings or sides (we also have fries!)
• Try some dessert! We have delicious Baklava!

The Halal Guys hours are Sunday - Thursday: 10 a.m. to midnight; and Friday – Saturday: 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
