Recovery Efforts Resume Along Niles Canyon For Missing Tracy Woman

FREMONT, CA — Niles Canyon Road, Highway 84, has been closed to traffic so searchers can comb the rain-swollen Alameda Creek for a vehicle and victim believed to be submerged in the water. The crash happened Saturday, but no trace of the vehicle was found.

The closure was originally scheduled for 10 a.m., but a spokeswoman for the Fremont Police Department Traffic Unit told Patch that it's happening early because of weather conditions.

The search and recovery is expected to last into the afternoon. If unsuccessful, the road will reopen, and additional closures will take place later in the week.

The victim's name had not been released, but police say the person is from Tracy.
