Niles Canyon Road Reopens

The road has been closed much of January because of flooding, mudslides and rockfall.

FREMONT, CA (BCN) — Niles Canyon Road between Fremont and Sunol reopened Friday afternoon, following the most recent closure of many due to mudslides and landslides that resulted from the series of atmospheric river storms that battered the Bay Area and California in the first two weeks of the new year.

Niles Canyon Road, also known as state Highway 84, spans between Mission Boulevard in Fremont and Main Street in Sunol. It reopened late Friday afternoon after being closed for several days.

Old Canyon Road, which spans Alameda Creek, has also reopened.

Sullivan Underpass, between Niles Boulevard and Mission Boulevard, is now open. Future temporary closures are possible in the event of additional rain.

The following road and bridge closures remain closed as of Friday evening:

Morrison Canyon Road: Continued closure planned for duration of the rainy season, or until further notice.

Mill Creek Road: Open to local residents only. The road is closed to general public.
