No Maximum Toll On New I-880 Express Lanes
When the conversion of the HOV lanes to Express Lanes are finished next summer, there will be no cap on how high tolls can go.

FREMONT, CA — The HOV lanes on Interstate Highway 880 are being converted to Express Lanes. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), which is in charge of the project, estimates the conversion will be finished by late summer next year. And the cost to use them could be steep if you drive solo.
The tolls charged will depend on traffic volume. The minimum toll is 50-cents. There is no maximum toll. Here how the tolls will be applied:
- 3 or more person carpools and motorcycles pay no toll
- 2-person carpools and clean air vehicles pay 50-percent tolls
- Solo drivers pay full tolls
All vehicles that use the Express Lanes will be required to have FasTrak including car pools that qualify to pay no toll.
