Ohlone College Awards 1,472 Degrees

FREMONT, CA — Ohlone College will hold its Commencement Ceremony Friday, May 24, at 7 p.m. in the Epler Gymnasium located on the Fremont Campus at 43600 Mission Boulevard. Traffic will be heavy as proud parents and graduates make their way to the campus, while the Friday evening commute and Holiday Weekend getaway all converge. If you're not going to the graduation, it's best to avoid the area.

The College will award 1,472 Associate of Art and Associate of Science degrees, and 149 Certificates of Achievement to 820 students. Many graduates are transferring to four-year colleges and universities, both in California and out-of-state.

Ohlone released this interesting trivia: the youngest graduate of the class is 17 and the oldest is 79 years old.

The valedictorian is Ailin Chen who immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of 14. Chen will transfer to the University of California, Berkeley where she plans to study mechanical engineering.

The graduation speaker is Sergio Suarez, an Ohlone alumni, adjunct professor for Ohlone’s Theater and Dance department, and the general manager of the Ohlone Tri-City Street Fair. He founded a non-profit organization — All The Way Live Foundation— that uses street dance to empower, educate, and support youth living in marginalized communities.

The doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is with a ticket only with first-come, first served seating.Parking is free.
