Exhibition Brings 'Oldest And Most Enduring Forms Of Artistic Expression' To East Bay

FREMONT, CA — From contemporary textiles to fiber art by local artists, the 56th Annual Textile Exhibition will have it all.

The exhibition returns to Fremont's Olive Hyde Art Gallery on Thursday, welcoming curious minds or textile lovers to view it virtually.

In-person viewing begins on Thursday, Aug. 20. Museum hours are from noon to 5 p.m. during exhibition runs. A reception will also be held for the exhibition on Friday, Aug. 28, according to Fremont city officials.

"Textile art is one of humanity's oldest and most enduring forms of artistic expression," according to the exhibit's description. "Historically dismissed as 'women's work' or simply craft, contemporary fiber artists continue to challenge those outdated perceptions."

Some fan favorites, such as Denise Oyama Miller's "fascinating, award-winning" nature-inspired quilts, will make up part of the exhibit.

But there will also be artwork from 20 new artists, bringing "fresh perspectives and innovative" techniques, according to officials.

"Through innovation, experimentation, and extraordinary craftsmanship, the artists in this exhibition redefine what textile art can be," according to the exhibit. "Year after year, we are inspired by their ingenuity, creativity, and ability to expand the possibilities of fiber as an artistic medium."
