FREMONT, CA — A Porsche was stolen from a car dealership on the Peninsula, driven across the San Mateo Bridge into the East Bay, and chased by the California Highway Patrol through Oakland, San Leandro, Hayward, and Union City before the CHP finally stopped the vehicle in Fremont, but not before the driver rammed a patrol car.

The driver, Jeremy Morton, who was on probation for felony assault, was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of carjacking. Additional charges are expected to be filed by the CHP in Alameda County for suspicion of felony evasion of the police, and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer for the intentional ramming of the CHP vehicle, police said.

The crime started Saturday afternoon when 25-year-old Morton of Hayward went to Carlsen Porsche in Redwood City. After starting the engine of a Porsche valued at $135,000, the suspect, along with a salesman who was showing him the vehicle, got out of the car. Police said the suspect then reached under his clothing, and the salesman saw what appeared to be the outline of a handgun being pointed at him.
