Suspect Dead In Shootout With Fremont Police
"A revolver was located at the suspect's side with expended casings."
FREMONT, CA — One man was killed Thursday evening in a shootout with Fremont Police in front of a gas station on Fremont Boulevard. No officers or innocent bystanders were hit by gunfire, police report.
Police say the encounter began at 6:47 p.m. when undercover Fremont Police officers spotted the suspect, who had multiple felony warrants, traveling as a passenger in a vehicle. One warrant was for illegal possession of a firearm.
Police report that several marked patrol vehicles responded to the area, located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop the it. Officers turned on their overhead lights and siren as the vehicle traveled northbound on Fremont Blvd. The driver stopped at the intersection of Fremont Boulevard and Nicolet Avenue. However, once the vehicle stopped, police say the suspect jumped out of the car and began running northeast towards a gas station.

According to a written statement, police report, "At 6:52 p.m. officers broadcast that a firearm was pointed at them by the suspect and that shots were fired. During the shooting, the suspect was struck and fell to the ground. A revolver was located at the suspect’s side with expended casings."
Police officers provided care for the injured suspect until Fremont Fire Department paramedics arrived. However, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fremont Boulevard remains closed in both directions between Gibraltar Drive and Tamayo Street.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area. American High School, Brookvale Shopping Center, Fire Station 8 and Westridge Park are all located on the closed stretch of Fremont Boulevard.
No time frame was given for when the heavily traveled street will reopen.
