Residents Frustrated By Tuesday's Monumental Traffic Jam

Traffic on Mission Boulevard and beyond backed up for several miles, police say.

FREMONT, CA — The northbound on-ramp at the north Mission Boulevard entrance to I-680 has reopened, Fremont Police report. But not before Fremont residents and commuters cutting through Fremont to get to the Tri-Valley spent hours crawling through traffic.

Residents took to social media to vent their frustrations over squandered evenings. Steph Rivera wrote, "My poor husband has been stuck in traffic on the city streets for the last two hours it has gotten so congested here in Fremont with people & car Fremont has lost that small town feeling it use to have."

Many, such as Shri Shende, want something done to alleviate traffic on a daily basis. Shende wrote, "I would like city hall to schedule discussion about daily traffic problems on the city streets and what we should do to find a solution. How to prevent spillover traffic on the city streets?"

The Fremont Police Department pointed out several times that the majority of cars were not Fremont residents, "As long as there are jobs in Silicon Valley and not enough homes nearby, people will continue to move farther out and traverse through Fremont to get to/from work."

The on-ramp was closed as Caltrans crews repaired a sinkhole on the interstate.
