Tri City Native Keeps Fitness Alive For Active Baby Boomers

Fitness classes geared specifically for our energetic Baby Boomers and Mature Adults, aged 55 and above.

Staying fit and active is vitally important, no matter what age a person is. One group that often gets neglected in the fitness industry, however, are our older adults, “senior citizens.”

And with older Americans living longer, more productive lives, our older adults, particularly those of our Baby Boomer Generation, need fitness classes that cater to their specific needs, likes, and interests.

Michael Quebec, a Tri-City native and fitness instructor, has taken it upon himself to open up classes geared specifically for this often neglected market in fitness circles.

Currently, he has taught Senior Aerobics and Senior Strength classes for the City of Newark since 2007. He has also opened up new senior’s fitness classes for Fremont Adult and Continuing Education, The Fremont Senior Center, as well as continuing to expand a recently started (and popular) senior’s Low Impact Aerobics Class at the Mark Green Union City Sports Center in Union City.

The classes are energetic, lively and fun.

The music for the aerobics is filled with authentic 1950’s and 1960’s rock n’ roll music from Mike Quebec’s personal collection and the steps are done in a dynamic “call and response” manner, working not only the cardiovascular system, but the mind as well, improving upon participants’ reaction time.

The strength classes are a combination of isometrics, free weights, bands, and gentle stretches adapted from yoga. These classes make movement easier for everyday activities.

Fees are community-based, not commercial. Most classes break down to about $6 to even as low as $3 a lesson.

If you or someone you know is 55 years or older, or if you are not, but would like to participate in a moderate, yet fun and energetic fitness class without large fees or long contracts, contact Mike directly at (510)-240-2732 or at esperescano@gmail.com for information on schedules, class locations, registration and fees.
