Young Couple Seeks Help For Prosthetic, Medical Bills

Only 24-years-old, they're continuing to smile through their hard times.

FREMONT, CA — A young East Bay couple who began their life together as high school sweethearts has endured a run of bad luck with health problems. Now just 24, Andrew and Emilie Silva are facing huge medical costs.

Their problems began when the couple wanted to start a family and learned they would need in-vitro fertilization (IVF), a procedure that costs at least $20,000 and would not be covered by insurance. Undergone in November 2017, the process failed.

Then, just two months later, Andrew was involved in a workplace accident that left him with three severed fingers. Despite surgery, doctors were unable to reattach them. Now he needs a prosthetic hand.

The couple has turned to the crowd-funding site GoFundMe for help. They are trying to raise $30,000 to pay off their medical bills and purchase a prosthetic for Andrew. So far they have raised almost $4,000.

If you can help the Silvas, donate to their GoFundMe medical account.
