2 Dead, 2 Critically Injured After Small Plane Crashes In Fresno: Officials

FRESNO, CA — A small plane crashed in northwest Fresno Saturday, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Two people reportedly died and two were critically injured, Fresno city officials confirmed with Patch.

The Fresno Bee reported that the two were pronounced dead at the scene, while the two who were injured were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The NTSB said they have opened an investigation into Saturday’s crash of a Grumman American Avn. Corp. AA-5 airplane, which impacted terrain shortly after takeoff from Sierra Skypark in Fresno Saturday afternoon.

An NTSB investigator is traveling to the accident site, officials said. After the wreckage is documented, it will be recovered and moved to a secure facility for further examination, officials added.

A preliminary report is expected within 30 days of the crash, the NTSB said.

Fresno City Councilmember Mike Karbassi released a statement on social media: "This is a rare and tragic situation in northwest Fresno. My immediate concern is for the survivors of this heart-wrenching situation. At the appropriate time, my office will reach out and ensure they have what they need as they recover."

He thanked first responders and City Manager Georgeanne White for responding to the scene and "working to save lives. I ask our community to pray for this family who are going through something unimaginable."
