1. Fresno family displaced after electric scooter battery fire destroys home (abc30.com) — A central Fresno family of eight is homeless after a damaged lithium-ion battery in a secondhand electric scooter sparked a fire that gutted their house and destroyed decades of belongings. Fresno Fire officials are using the incident to warn about overheating batteries, while the family, now in a hotel, leans on community support and a GoFundMe as they start over.
2. Westlands Water District board, other Fresno County races draw no challengers. Here's why (fresnobee.com) — Control of Westlands Water District, which spans western Fresno County and is poised for massive solar development, is decided only by landowning water contractors using weighted votes, not the general public. With four board seats uncontested this year, county voters won't see this influential race on their November ballot, though supervisors must still formally appoint the directors and several smaller Fresno-area water districts do have contested elections.
3. August 31 – September 4, 2026 – Listen To Win: Gretchen Wilson Chukchansi Gold Contest Rules (ksks.com) — Fresno's 93.7 Kiss Country is running a "Gretchen Wilson at Chukchansi Gold" contest August 31–September 4, with listeners within 100 miles of the Fresno studio eligible to win concert tickets. 4. Update: Woman fatally shot at Denny's in Madera; Suspect detained on Hwy 41 in Fresno (modbee.com) — Fresno County deputies detained a suspect on Highway 41 near Manning Avenue after a woman was fatally shot outside a Denny's in neighboring Madera County. Investigators say the case appears to be a domestic violence incident and are still gathering information. Residents with tips are urged to contact the Madera County Sheriff's Office.
