14-Year-Old Boys Lead CHP On Hwy 101 Chase, Flip Car

A police pursuit on U.S. Highway 101 Sunday evening ended in Morgan Hill with an overturned car and two 14-year-old boys in custody, a California Highway Patrol sergeant said.

Sgt. Troy Vincent said just before 9 p.m., an officer on patrol saw a car weaving in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 and discovered it had been reported stolen.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle by activating the cruiser’s lights and sirens, but instead of stopping, the car continued south and took the exit at E. Dunne Avenue, Vincent said.

The car crashed into the center median and flipped onto its roof, Vincent said.

Both the driver and the passenger ran away from the car and Vincent said the passenger was taken into custody almost immediately.

Police found the driver hiding nearby after what Vincent described as an “extensive search.”

Both juveniles are San Jose residents, he said. Neither was injured in the incident.

No one else was injured and no other property was damaged, Vincent said.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision, he said.
